Preschoolers at Smith Houses Compost Food Scraps
The Hamilton-Madison House preschool, located at NYCHA’s Smith Houses in Manhattan, installed a compost bin so preschoolers can compost food scraps from their lunches and snacks. The bin was established with funding from City Council Member Christopher Marte and is maintained by , a non-profit dedicated to advancing composting in the metropolitan area. The finished compost will be used in the Hamilton-Madison House school garden. Efforts like this are part of to eventually make compost collection services available to all developments.Â
