NYCHA Fire Safety Symposia Coming to All Five Boroughs

Throughout this summer and continuing into the fall, NYCHA鈥檚 Fire Safety Department is joining forces with the Public Housing Community Fund, NYCHA鈥檚 Resident Engagement and Healthy Homes teams, the FDNY Education Unit, and the New York City Fire Museum to present a series of entertaining and informative events supporting a vital mission: fire safety education for 蜜桃视频.

NYCHA鈥檚 leadership has worked for many years to improve fire safety and prevention for the NYCHA community and its developments. As NYCHA鈥檚 Director of Fire Safety Joe Terranova puts it: 鈥淭he best kind of fire to have is the one that never happens in the first place.鈥

NYCHA’s Inaugural Fire Safety Symposium was a great success;
this summer and fall, a series of them will build on that success in all five boroughs.

鈥淲hen I came on board in August of last year, there wasn鈥檛 yet an educational program in place for NYCHA鈥檚 residents,鈥 said Mr. Terranova. 鈥淏ut then I saw that some of our partners were putting a program together, and it looked really strong. So I suggested that we join forces 鈥 and collaborating with them has led to the creation of a really great program.鈥

The Inaugural Fire Safety Symposium took place last October at the New York City Fire Museum. 鈥淲e put the whole thing together in about six weeks,鈥 said Mr. Terranova. 鈥淲e hosted a great dinner, we invited the leaders of all of NYCHA鈥檚 resident associations to come 鈥 and all in all, about 70 people showed up. The event was a big hit!鈥

The Inaugural Symposium鈥檚 success inspired Mr. Terranova and his colleagues to expand the opportunity citywide. 鈥淲e saw the success of that first event and had to ask ourselves: 鈥榃hy don鈥檛 we just take this to the boroughs?鈥 And that鈥檚 exactly what we鈥檙e doing now, through this summer and fall.鈥
